In the Eye of the Beholder: Independent filmmaker Nikita Diakur
Wednesday, April 5th, 2017 by Julian Karsunky
‘Ugly’ director and producer Nikita Diakur and Chief Redbear Easterman share a cup of coffee
CGI and Computer animation generally aim to produce the most polished and aesthetically pleasing results for the viewer, for obvious reasons. Enter Ugly, an experimental animated short that seemingly defies all rules and conventions of traditional animation, directed and produced by Russian-born filmmaker Nikita Diakur.
Exhibiting unique visuals and art direction bordering on the avant-garde, “Ugly” tells the story of a Native American chief and an ugly cat trying to find peace in a harsh environment. Having successfully received crowdfunding, the now finished short is about to hit this year’s festival circuit before its public release, starting with the prestigious Animafest Zagreb.
We had the chance to talk to Nikita about ‘Ugly’, the creative vision behind it and the experimental approach his team took in animating.

“Look behind you, a three-headed monkey!” No wait, it's actually Daniel Karner, our April 2017 3D Artist of the Month, taking us on a trip down memory lane. Titled “Back in 1991”, his winning image is an homage to the golden age of computer gaming, depicting a scene filled to the brim with memorabilia from the early nineties. The photorealistic imagery showcases stunning lighting and an expert understanding of compositing, while the amazing attention to detail is sure to make every geek of sufficient age squeal with nostalgic glee. Continue reading to learn more about the artist behind the image and for an in-depth making-of by Daniel Karner himself.

A chat with animator and director Richard Bazley
Monday, March 6th, 2017 by Nadine Obst
We got the chance to talk to award winning animator and director Richard Bazley about his latest movie, his career at Disney and his creative vision. His current project "Predawn" is crowd funded and all proceeds go towards homeless charities. RebusFarm really liked the idea and decided to support his altruistic endeavors. We'd be happy if our users take similar action and donate to his Indiegogo campaign.
